Abstract

The performance of village officials is a crucial factor in ensuring effective governance and public service delivery at the village level. However, various performance-related issues are still observed, which are influenced by managerial and psychological factors. This study aims to examine the effect of leadership and organizational commitment on the performance of village officials in Ranah Batahan District, Pasaman Barat Regency. This research employs a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to all village officials using a census sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with the assistance of statistical software. The results indicate that leadership does not have a significant partial effect on the performance of village officials, while organizational commitment has a positive and significant effect on performance. Simultaneously, leadership and organizational commitment significantly influence the performance of village officials, with a coefficient of determination of 46.0 percent. These findings suggest that the performance of village officials is more strongly influenced by organizational commitment than by leadership directly. This study provides empirical evidence that enriches the literature on human resource management in the public sector, particularly in the context of village governance, and offers practical implications for village and local governments in formulating policies to improve the performance of village officials through strengthening organizational commitment.
